New LH4N Modular Soft Starter Square D is pleased to announce the availability of the new LH4N Modular Soft Starter from Telemecanique. The LH4N modular soft starter allows the gradual smooth starting of single-phase and three-phase squirrel cage motors with a cost-effective device. Unlike conventional
electromechanical starting systems, the LH4N device allows precise adjustment of motor starting torque, eliminating mechanical shocks which lead to premature bearing wear, shaft and belt
breakage, increased maintenance time, and costly production stoppages. The LH4N soft starter is designed for installation downstream from a motor starter. Upon closure of the
contactor, the voltage to one phase (LH4N1) or two phases (LH4N2, shown here) of the motor is reduced through controlled firing of an SCR device. The initial turn-on voltage and the
time to ramp to nominal voltage is controlled via the front-panel potentiometers. Once the start has reached full voltage, the SCR's are bypassed by an internal relay to assure cool, effficient
